What is British Historical Craftsmen (BHC) Who is Eligible to join and what does it entail? Some general principles We envisage a group of British Isles crafts men & women from all historical era's and crafts (who see their market share diminishing as cheap imports become more evident) joining together to promote the benefits of our own craft products in the spirit of open and transparent fair play much in the same way our British farmers are doing to preserve their markets. One or two people on their own would not have the resources to promote themselves or a recognized Logo (Mark), a larger group can have an effect, even running inexpensive promotions for our joint British crafted products. We are not intended to replace the National Market Traders Federation (NMTF) historic branch or any other organisation; our members will likely already be and remain part of the NMTF or other organisation (it would be silly to compromise other good organizations). BUT! Simply joining BHC and expecting a few dedicated members to make it right will not solve the problems; it will require all of us to contribute a little effort into helping ourselves British Historical Craftsmen (BHC) a few initial simple rules so we'd all know what is expected of us:- 1) Membership will initially be free (most communication can be made freely by electronic means); with small shared levies to pay for posters etc Although we might all agree a small fee to cover running costs. 2) Any historical trader who makes at least 75% of traditional products he/she displays and sells would be eligible to join. [Re-sellers must sell more than 75% of pure British made goods]. {Also; Traders who historically and traditionally travelled to import their goods; e.g. Scent's unguents and spices would be eligible if their peripheral products are UK made). 3) The logo "mark" would be a focal promotional representation point for the historical, traditional British made goods of individual trader's. The copyright of this logo would be owned by the organisation "British Historical Craftsmen" (BHC) and only members would be permitted to display it. 4) BHC members would always promote the "Mark" and strive to support and help each others crafts. 5) BHC members shall actively promote a principle of "good historical products made by British men & women". 6) BHC shall safeguard the established craftsmen of BHC members and their crafts, within the BHC. 7) Members would be issued a membership number with an appropriated display card showing our BHC aims. (Membership can be rescinded for any reason by a 65% majority vote of the members). 8) The British Historical Craftsmen would be self governing by its members, through their elected representatives (chair; vice chair; secretary and treasurer), in accordance with and with the spirit intended in these rules. 9) All members should be carriers of the "mark" for a twelve months probationary period - before being nominated for any official office. 10) Members must "never" make disparaging remarks about other traders, importers or imported goods. 11)Communicate with members when you see any problems which will likely to affect any of us. 12)Try to promote the concept of BHC to other traders who might benefit from joining. 13) Always keep any internal disputes completely confidential (calm talking resolves most problems).
